This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are creating science projects on animal cells, bacteria cells and plant cells. They will research the structures and functions of the cells as well as how diseases affect the cell structures and functions. The goal is to apply content and skills learned through displays of data and presentations at varied science stations in the classroom. They will also record their findings for the school’s town hall meeting, pictures for the school’s brochures, and to apply for science grants and scholarships.

The students I have glow with energy when they can touch and feel the things they are learning.

Unfortunately, there is always a shortage of funds for items like this, but I still want to make learning fun and engaging for them. I am looking forward to introducing 3-dimensional models, so my students can learn better, especially those who are kinesthetic learners!

Your donation will help me support our future scientists! I teach at a public school serving Chicago's West Side community. Our school is designed to empower youth with choices upon graduation, and we achieve this by surrounding them with an army of caring adults, high expectations, and endless love. At our school, we aim to support our students' rights to have options available to them upon high school graduation. That may be a trade school, a two-year college, or a traditional four-year college.
