Ancient Greek Heroes Come to Life

My Students

Our school has 850 of the hardest working, kindest, most inspirational students. They love to learn in multifaceted ways, and I try my hardest to meet all of their needs.

Not only do our students represent a cross section of New Hampshire's largest city, but they also come from across the world, with more than 30 different languages spoken in our hallways alone.

The student body is the best mix of cultural diversity, and all students are able to learn about other cultures, traditions, and beliefs.

Our school also has a large percentage of students living in poverty. These students lack even the most basic school supplies on a daily basis. It is a struggle to keep these students supplied with school essentials, never mind providing them with rich learning experiences and warm classroom settings.

My Project

Perseus, Hercules, Theseus, Jason... What do these names have in common? They will be entering my classroom this spring as my students learn about ancient Greek heroes and the hero's journey. This fun and exciting time in my sixth grade classroom is capped by a creative ancient Greek Comic-Con.

My students will use these art supplies to create sales-pitch presentations on an ancient Greek hero of their choice.

These presentations will be brought together in my school's second Greek Comic-Con where my students will try to convince comic book representatives that their Greek hero should be the next big star. On presentation day, students will be dressed in ancient Greek costume displaying their creative poster boards that these supplies helped create.

This PBL project is something that my students are already looking forward to come spring!
