My Students

I have a great group of 3rd graders. They are very bright, and very active! They come in ready to talk, learn, and play. We start every morning with our Growth Mindset pledge, where we promise to face whatever challenges come our way with a positive attitude and learn from our mistakes.

I have a very diverse group in many aspects- socioeconomically, academically, and ethnically.

Due to this diversity, meeting everyone's needs is a challenge in itself. One moment we may be tackling 4th grade skills and the next, we are filling some gaps from 1st grade. No matter who they are, they all know that they can set goals, encourage each other and learn!

My Project

I will use the larger and smaller blank easel pads, as well as the flipchart markers, during class lessons to create colorful and visual reminders of our learning in each subject area. I will use the mavalous tape and the command strips to hang up the smaller charts, which do not have sticky already attached to the back. The easels with primary lines on them will be extra helpful when it comes time to model and practice our cursive handwriting, which is an important skill these third graders will have to practice.

Anchor charts have been proven to be critically effective in boosting students' visual memories, even long after they are removed off the wall.

Having charts that we create together in class hanging on the wall for reference or help throughout their learning day provides them the opportunity to self-assess and guide when I am not available to help remind them of strategies they already know.

I am not the only person using these charts. The students also use these in group projects and presentations when they need to create a visual to help teach their peers.
