Anchor Charts for Reading and Writing Workshop

Help me give my students clear and colorful anchor charts to support their learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, I am returning to teach in the Northeast Los Angeles community and couldn't be more excited. I look forward to working with with a new group of diverse learners. Some of my students are recent immigrants to the United States, while others have lived here since birth. I will teach a wide range of learners including those who are learning English, students with learning disabilities, as well as students working at or above grade level who are in constant need of being challenged. It is my responsibility to meet the needs of all my students so they each can access their full potential.

Despite any of the challenges they face, my students are curious, open to new experiences, and full of promise, and I work diligently to provide a learning environment that is culturally relevant, challenging, and safe.

I do this by engaging students in reading and writing workshop, project-based learning, and social-emotional learning through activities such as Council. My priority is always to provide a learning environment in which students feel safe in taking risks and can develop self-efficacy.

My Project

One of the staples of reading and writing workshop instruction is the use of anchor charts. We use these in my class to summarize learning, to list academic language, etc. By the end of any given unit, the walls of our classroom are covered in these charts.

In order to make these charts clear and colorful, I need to chart paper, large post-its, and sharpies.

These materials are not something that I can currently access through my school, but are so important to my day-to-day instruction. Please help me build effective learning tools to support my diverse learners.
