I am the librarian at a K-6 school with 600+ wonderfully ethnically diverse students, a wide range of academic learners and students from families that do not speak English as their first language. Our student population is about 8% white students and 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
I am passionate about getting quality reading content into the hands of students.
I have a small budget and due to the nature of the student population, students often move and library books never make it back to our school.
My Project
I am a member of the WA Library Association and would like to have copies of the books nominated for the 2020 Sasquatch Award. I want to have the books available for students to read when they return in September.
Purchasing the Sasquatch nominated books for our library collection will be new for our library this year.
Last year I promoted the O.T.T.E.R books recommended for 1st-3rd grade readers. Students really enjoyed the O.T.T.E.R books. I will continue to promote the O.T.T.E.R books this year but I also want to introduce upper grade students to the Sasquatch Nominees. The Sasquatch books are recommended for middle grade readers.
I have been reading the Sasquatch nominated books this summer and have been impressed with the quality and diversity of the books. I will promote a program at our library that encourages students to read and vote for their favorite Sasquatch nominee.
