An Online Reading Library for My Neurodivergent Kiddos!

My Project

I teach teenagers who have severe developmental disabilities such as down syndrome and autism. I want to renew my year subscription to a website called ReadingAZ. ReadingAZ has thousands of leveled books that students can access from anywhere. This is designed to help kids learn to read. I want to teach my students how to read and expose them to multiple genres because reading is an important skill that will foster independence! Reading will help them become independent and stay safe.

This website has thousands of titles on different reading levels so my students who read on a Pre-K level can learn through a variety of topics that they're interested in.

What's even better is that they can access it at home and they can read with their families and with at-home service providers.

I will use the books to teach students how to read. By teaching vocabulary with a lot of visuals, and designing collaborative activities about sequencing and comprehension questions, I will encourage my students to work together while strengthening their reading skills.

Since this program can be accessed at home, students can work with their parents and at-home service providers to reinforce the skills we learned in the classroom. I will select topics that help students learn about safe social situations, financial literacy, and job skills - skills they will need as they become older and independent. Since my students have severe developmental disabilities, our focus at our school is to teach our students life skills. Reading is one of the most important life skills that we can give our kids.
