Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach dual language in a small neighborhood in Texas. My students are English language learners. They do their best everyday to learn the language while learning their academics. I enjoy helping them to succeed and be proud of themselves for who they are and where they come from.
All of my students are motivated to come to school everyday to learn and be successful in life, despite their difficulties they face at home.
They come from low income families, where parents have to work really hard to provide them with all their needs.
My Project
First grade sets a really important milestone for any lifelong reader. Therefore, students need to be exposed to a variety of books either during read-alouds or independent reading. Students interact with books in my classroom on a daily basis. They specially enjoy read-alouds. However, my students are Spanish native speakers and it has become a problem having enough Spanish books due to this being my first year. Most of the time I have been using You-Tube for read-alouds which I believe is not as engaging and beneficial as me reading to them the book. The books that I am asking will be placed in our classroom library and will be used for read-alouds in different content areas, author studies, and independent reading.
