An Equitable Classroom: Differentiation for Unique Learners
Help me give my students a differentiated classroom that addresses all their needs. Seat cushions, kick bands, fidgets, noise-cancelling headphones, and pencil bags to hold kids' differentiated things will give students what they need and help them focus!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 20 wonderful, energetic, brilliant, and empathetic second graders at a Title I school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Our school is truly barrier-free; we serve every child who comes to us. We have 10% ENL learners and 33% students with diagnosed learning disabilities, and most students qualify for free and reduced breakfast and lunch.
My students have a variety of strengths, needs, and great personalities, and this project is one of many efforts that our classroom is making to differentiate for the needs of my students.
My Project
My students shine every day, but they do their best work when they are in a safe, comfortable environment and when they have systems in place that prioritize their learning.
We strive to have an equitable classroom, one where every learner gets what they need.
Some learners in our classroom need wiggle cushions for their chairs, kick-bands for their feet in their chairs, and fidgets to focus on the rug. Some students need noise-cancelling headphones because of hearing sensitivity. And all students need a simple pencil case to hold their supplies – often finding their supplies distracts them from being their best, most curious self!
This project will transform our classroom into a space where every students' needs are met. These materials are crucial to some students' learning and will help all students see that every child deserves to have what they need.
