My Project

My kindergarten students are interested in learning about the world beyond their own neighborhood. Many of my students are first-generation English speakers who serve as interpreters for their families and other students in our school. We are a class family where my students care for each other. I have always said that I am on a mission field in my classroom, and I know I am making a difference one child at a time.

A classroom rug is the center of a Kindergarten classroom.

Most of our learning takes place on the classroom rug. This rug will be new, bright, and inviting. Carpet time supports kindergarteners' academic and social-emotional skills. Students will begin the day with opening circle-time, engage in learning lessons throughout the day, and end the day with closing circle-time while on the rug. This rug will help students in finding their own space, assist with daily routines, and will provide a welcoming environment for current and future students. This rug will be a happy and safe place for my students, and help build a classroom community excited to learn.
