An Apron a Day Keeps the Dry Cleaner Away

My Project

I teach chemistry and forensic science. I enjoy teaching science because there are infinite opportunities to be creative, to question, to experiment, and to give students hands-on experiences to draw their own conclusions. This doesn't happen when students just copy notes and take multiple-choice tests. They need to take the content and apply it in a real-world way, which requires materials.

Students retain more information when they are having fun learning content.

In science, this means labs and experiments. In order to perform experiments, our school must supply students with the proper gear to keep them safe. These aprons would allow me to incorporate more exciting labs and keep students (and their clothes) safe.

I work for a Title 1 charter school. Our student population is full of 100% amazing students. Unfortunately, 100% of these students come from very different socioeconomic backgrounds, which can make consistency in supplies difficult. Due to a lack of funding within our district, our school is only able to provide what is deemed necessary to teach chemistry and forensic science. We do have aprons, but every single one is damaged in one way or another; because we have them, we are unable to get new ones.
