Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of the school laptops that were provided during the pandemic have taken a beatin physically. In the tech world our computers are “old”. Nowadays all programs are 64bit programs only! Many of our laptops are still at 32bit processor therefore not all programs are functioning; specifically adobe’s creative suite for educators! To keep it in rice and beans… our classrooms are out of date.

Our current laptops are technological dinosaurs, and our classroom is in a desperate need of a technological facelift.

I am asking for a Mac mini and a MacBook Air for easy communication between my classroom and classes. I am spread like butter between 4 different classrooms which I’m a guest in! From self contained to gen ed, this year my plate is full. With the Mac mini I’d be able to connect to any projector or smartboard available, a small convenient way to carry a full computer between classrooms to create and project my lessons. The students will be able to share the MacBook Air for projects that require the use of programs like Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut, iMovie etc.

The goal is always to expose our students, most who live in impoverished neighborhoods in the Bronx, to skills that can alternatively produce them an income in the future. Not all of our students with disabilities will go to college, so exposing them to programs that stimulate creativity and develop technological skills in school is important. Many people, including teens, are making a living through their creativity. Kids are already starting to transition towards futures in social media; our job isn’t to force them to college but to prepare them for a career. With the Mac mini and MacBook Air we’ll expose them to programs that’ll provide them with new opportunity.
