Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am the Digital Learning Specialist at a Title I-funded, K-5, public school within the city limits, where much of our student population comes from low-income or single-parent homes. Our school serves over 500 students.

Regardless of our students' socioeconomic status, I have learned that they all have unique situations related to their education.

Each year I work with students having attention concerns and it can be very difficult for them to stay focused for extended periods of time. I like to find new, innovative ideas to help encourage and support learning for students that I work with. I want all students to wake up each day excited to be a part of our school community!

My Project

Our students have a school-issued iPad for 1:1 digital learning. The iPads contain a plethora of apps and programs used to enhance learning and create projects. Some of the apps and programs, however, require drawing or writing. This can be difficult using a finger or an ordinary stylus. In addition, it may be difficult for students to form letters properly without a pencil-like writing tool.

Apple Pencils will allow students to have a more interactive experience as they can draw, sketch and write in the numerous apps.

A class set of Apple Pencils will be available for teachers and small groups to check out and use as needed on projects and activities in the classroom.
