Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My special education students have disabilities which include Learning Disabilities, Speech & Language Impaired, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The inner-city children that I teach have parents who are struggling to make ends meet and many come from one-parent homes.
My resource room students have significant memory and reading deficits, which requires continuous repetition and reinforcement in order to master the most basic skills.
Learning to decode simple words is an excruciating task for my students with severe disabilities. With daily consistent practice, great pride is revealed once fluency occurs.
My Project
A new Apple iPad will greatly help to motivate my students. Their frustration levels will decrease as academic skills improve through fun and motivating apps. Improvement in skills will help my students develop a love of reading, spelling, and math.
The main academic use will be reading decoding apps to reinforce short and long vowels and to provide independent practice required to obtain reading fluency
The iPad will be also be used as a reward for behavior and effort during free-time, in which students can select an appropriate fun app. This strategy works wonders to help them do their best.
