My Project

The best part of teaching second grade is the students. At this age, students are naturally curious and willing to take risks with their learning. They are learning how to get along with their classmates and still love pleasing their teacher.

My classroom aims to meet the needs of all my students; we use flexible seating options, individual learning opportunities, and various opportunities to demonstrate learning.

Students thrive with these individualized approaches to learning, and the joy they feel when mastering new skills is palpable. My students work hard and love to learn and grow.

Over the years, I worked hard to fund iPads for my students. With a lot of effort, I was eventually able to fund a 1:1 classroom. This setting has created amazing opportunities for my students. I teach an inclusion classroom, with a significant range in student abilities. With these iPads, each student is able to access a curriculum that moves them forward at their own pace, providing enrichment and review opportunities.

Unfortunately, this was a very slow endeavor and many of our iPads are no longer supporting software updates. In addition, I am in need of a larger quantity of devices as my class size is increasing.

This has led to a reduction in access to digital curricula, such as Freckle and Epic, with some students able to use these apps and others are not. The use of these applications is essential to our everyday operations in the classroom in the same way tissues and crayons are.

This project will almost finish replacing old iPads and provide for an increase in class size, allowing ALL my students to fully utilize our 1:1 classroom environment to its fullest potential again.
