I’ve been working in the field of education for many years and for the past few years have had the pleasure of working as a Math Instructional Coach at my school. My school is a low performing school and 100% of our student population is considered low-income. My students benefit from technology integrated instruction because it helps to boost their engagement in class. When student engagement is high, there is less behavior disruption and more effective instruction. My role provides me the opportunity to support new and veteran teachers as they develop effective strategies, assessments and interventions to reach every learner on our campus.
I love what I do and enjoy seeking out professional development opportunities to build my capacity as a Math Coach so that I can share my new knowledge with our school’s teachers as we work together to meet the learning needs of our students.
My Project
As an instructional coach, I am required to keep on top of my craft (including the most up to date technological practices), share new learning with staff, and provide feedback and data analysis regularly. Another part of my role is to help teachers integrate new technology in their classrooms.
Without having the technology to "play around with" it is very difficult for me to build my own capacity to assist others with their needs.
This iPad and its accompanying pencil will enable me to learn how to utilize iPad technology with all stakeholders, provide digital feedback on lesson plans and data, develop technology embedded PD and assist teachers with the integration of technology in their classrooms. I would like to use this iPad to learn how to incorporate Google Classroom and other apps, like Splashtop, into classroom instruction to help boost the engagement of the students on my campus.
The teachers that I coach have access to iPad carts for their students to use but need the support to help them develop effective plans and strategies to utilize the technology appropriately with their students. Additionally, once I have learned various methods for integrating technology more effectively in the classroom I will be able to provide more technology training to the teachers on my campus so that they too can learn the benefits that technology brings to our jobs.
