"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." --Benjamin Franklin Being able to build a conceptual understanding of math through hands-on interactions helps students engage in new learning and builds the bridge to more abstract thinking. These Interlocking Base Ten blocks with be used in classrooms from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Students at varying levels will be able to build a strong foundation in concepts related to place value, regrouping in addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. With these blocks my students will have the ability to physically compose and decompose numbers based on their place value and develop a more in depth understanding of what regrouping actually means. They'll have the ability to physically break apart a number when dividing and put it back together to model multiplication making the connections between multiplication and division. Students in lower grades will be able to physically compose a ten using unit cubes and then connect those tens to make one hundred. But most importantly, the hands-on interactions and learning my students have with these manipulatives will help to build the important foundations needed to be successful in the math they will encounter throughout their academic careers and beyond.
