Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom of 23 students, about half of whom receive special education services. Our students are eager to learn and need the resources in order to be successful in their studies!

Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with most of our students receiving free lunch.

My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them for the rest of the day!

My Project

My school district has adopted The Teachers College Reading and Writing units of study. One of the main resources teachers can provide for their students is an engaging classroom library. Two books that I am most excited about are George vs. George The American Revolution As Seen from Both Sides and Why We Won the American Revolution-through Primary Sources. The titles chosen in this project will help awaken students passion for history. I hope it spills over to other parts of American History for them.

In 4th grade children take on the challenge of researching history, specifically the American Revolution.

Children study multiple points of view, support a position with reasons and evidence, tackle complex texts, and learn strategies for using new domain-specific words.

I currently do not possess this genre in my classroom library and having these titles will help enrich my students learning experiences.
