Help me give my students leveled books on our classroom book shelf to read while we are studying the Revolutionary War. We need books for my reading group that reads below grade level.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our sweet southern town is home to a small section of a rural school district with 4,400 students in total. The town is committed to the education of their children and very involved in the school community.
The majority of students in our school district come from low-income households; the average income in our district is $19,000 a year.
All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Our students are loving and eager to learn. However, many of our students come to school without basic classroom supplies, and budgets for materials are limited.
My Project
My students need biographies and fiction books based on the Revolutionary War and other important eras in American History. During our Revolutionary War unit in Social Studies, my students want to read books at their reading level about people who influenced the war, and I need a set of books for my low readers for a reading group.
My students love reading biographies about the important people we study in American History.
Right now we are studying people who influenced the Revolutionary War. Later we will begin studying Westward Expansion and the Civil War.
My students love learning fun facts and more detailed information than what we cover in class. These books will help quench their thirst for more information as we continue our studies.
