My Project

In our kindergarten autism classroom, learning happens best when students can touch, move, and explore. Sensory sand will give my students a calming, hands-on way to practice forming letters and numbers. Many of my students communicate and learn through movement and sensory play. The texture of the sand helps them stay engaged, reduces anxiety, and allows them to trace and erase without frustration.

With sensory sand trays, we can build daily routines for literacy and math that feel safe, joyful, and meaningful.

Instead of struggling to hold a pencil before they are ready, students can use their fingers or small tools to make marks, practice strokes, and recognize patterns. Each swipe in the sand builds confidence, fine motor skills, and early writing readiness.

This project will help my students learn at their pace while honoring how their bodies and brains process the world. Sensory sand turns learning into something soothing and fun — and every child in our classroom deserves that. Thank you for supporting their growth, play, and discovery.
