My Students

My students come from a very high poverty environment. Many are from homes where education and literacy are not a high priority due to parents' work schedules or difficulties meeting the individual needs of their child.

In my classroom, I am not only teaching students literacy and writing skills but life skills, manners, honesty, compassion, patience, and cooperation.

For most, the primary love, positive feedback, and nourishment they will receive for the day will come from my classroom and the school.

My Project

Reading is succeeding. Students who read more score higher and have better success not only in reading, but in all other academic subjects.

My students LOVE graphic novels and having them available is a great way to keep my students reading.

When my students finish a book, I want them to immediately dive into another one. Thus, it is critical for me to have books on my shelves that my students will be excited about picking up and reading! These graphic novels deal with social situations, loss, bullying, friendships, hardships, depression, fear, the power of positive thinking and more. They will make an outstanding addition to my classroom.
