My students need nonfiction informational texts to help them learn about animals and to write a collaborative animal research report! They especially need books that they can access on their own.
My First graders are excited about learning new things and love school! Help us build a caring classroom community! As first graders, their biggest goal is to meet their appropriate reading level by the end of the year. We have a very diverse school, students come from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
We are in a public school in California and we represent a diverse student population.
About 47% of our students participate in free or reduced-price lunch. 33% of our population are English Language learners.
My Project
First graders love animals! These informational texts will help them to read and learn all about their favorite animals. More importantly these texts are grade level accessible, so the students will be able to read them themselves! My students will then participate in a collaborative group research report on an animal of their choice. Having a variety of informational texts at their reading level will give them access to much more information. These books will foster and continue to spark their love for learning... especially about animals!! Having new books will get my students even more excited about starting our animal research reports. Having books that are at their reading level will increase motivation, participation, interest, and confidence.
