This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"AVID is a non-profit organization that provides professional learning for educators to improve college readiness for all students, especially those traditionally underrepresented in higher education."

I am in my 5th year as an AVID teacher.

My students are typically low income, minority, who need that extra push to succeed in school. I am in need of these books to support my students in preparing for all aspects of college and to promote and foster a college going culture in my classroom.

My students work very hard in their students and would benefit from this project.

My Project

A majority of my students are first generation college students, with no guidance from family on what to expect, how to handle tough situations, or where to even go for assistance. It is my hope that with these books, I can guide them through all the scenarios of a crazy college experience and how to handle it. These readings, and the lessons learned, will also help them with working together (collaboration) to reach solutions to other problems that could arise. This will also help to build problem solving skills that so many students struggle with mastering.
