Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you have trouble sitting still? Do you sit in a hard chair throughout the day? Our students need some alternative seating options to keep them engage.

My students are never sitting still.

They are always fidgeting in their chairs, leaning back, or sitting on their knees. They are low income, English language learners who love school. I want to help students maintain this love of learning by keeping them engage physically while learning difficult material.

My Project

Research has shown that there is a neurological pathway leading from a body's balance and movement system to it's alert system in the brain. Movement actually allows for alertness and attention. Balance balls play an important roll in student focus. In response to the ball's instability, the body instinctively engages its core muscles. Constant movement is required in order to stay seated on the ball, and that movement helps students focus. With balance balls, students feel less fidgety and more relaxed and when they sit on a ball, are better able to concentrate.

As we move into different ways of learning along with high expectations, students need choices about how they engage in classroom seating options.

They need the best possible physical environment to keep them focused.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
