This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach reading enrichment to students who are well below grade level. These students have not had the background at home to encourage the skills and enjoyment of reading.

Many of my students come from a low-income background, and English is the second language for many of them, as well.

These readers who come from some tough backgrounds come to class without the advantages that many peers their age have access to. I want to give them a classroom environment where school and reading are enjoyable instead of a "bore!"

My Project

My students have requested alternative seating in class. They have explained that they would like to be able to stand while they work and read during class. Standing desks would fill this need in my classroom!

They would benefit from standing desks because they will be able to focus more as they are able to move and stretch their legs while they work.

My students tell me that it is very difficult for them to sit still all day long without being able to move or stretch. I want to be able to give them this outlet to help them concentrate while they work.
