My students need computers, a projector and a bookcase. Being an alternative school, we often do not have the technology needed for our children. This is a major need.
Our school is an alternative school that services problem students from our district. In some cases students may stay for a few days or for the year. This depends on what they have done to be sent to us.
Our school serves problem students from our district.
All are good students, but for one reason or another have taken a wrong path. Along with this, most of them would be considered "at risk" because of socioeconomic status. Really, we are their last chance. If students are not able to perform in our program, there is little more that can be done. Because of this, it is crucial that we provide them with the best instruction possible.
My Project
Many of our students have to do assignments via the Internet. These are provided by their regular teachers at their school. Since we often gain large numbers of students during various parts of the year, we often do not have enough computers for them to use. This is a huge problem, considering that all Math is done on the computer for their teachers. The laptops and tablets will be used for this purpose.
Currently, we do not have an LCD projector. This device will be used for us to share instruction and deliver character education videos that we are required to show them during their stay.
Finally, I have requested a new bookcase. Our current bookcase is worn out. It has been repaired multiple times, and now is almost a hazard for the teachers and students. This case is used to house our students' books for their various subjects.
This project makes a difference because it reaches students who are in extreme need.
For many, our program is the only thing that allows them to continue their education in our system. These items will insure that our students do not fall behind when (or if) they do return to their schools. Truly, granting us these materials will give them a second chance that we all feel they deserve. This will result in students who are prepared for life in American society.
