My school is a Title I school with about 75% free and reduced lunches. We are a rural community in the Northeast corner of Oklahoma. We have a high population of Native American students. Several of my students are being raised by a single parent or grandparent.
I want to meet the needs of every student!
My students walk into our 2nd grade classroom with smiles, lots of energy and excited to see their fellow classmates and myself. I have students from a variety of backgrounds. My kids range from a 1.3 grade level to a 4.8 grade level. They love to help each other and cheer each other to success. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They love to read, like to move, and love hands on learning.
My Project
I am asking for alternative seating for my classroom. I would like to provide more alternative seating choices for those students that don't work well in traditional seating. Alternative seating allows the kids choices, such as standing, laying down, sitting on bean bags, etc. The Core Engagement stools allow for movement in all direction, which is critical to student development as physical movement both increases well-being and encourages the physical and intellectual maturing process. They will ensure increased safety for those students who have a lot of energy. The Core Engagement stools will be used at desk, during reading groups and whenever a child chooses to use one. The bean bags will be used during Read to Self time and when students are working on assignments. The Stability Ball Chair will promotes a healthy posture and keeps the mind focused and the body engaged. I purchased some scoop seats at the beginning of the year and my students love using them.
