This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Being in the fourth grade is no easy task for any student. When added in the additional pressures and stress of hormonal changes happening each day, many students have difficulty maintaining personal hygiene. Most of my low income students do not have access to such essential supplies. Having access to personal hygiene products such as pads, deodorant and toothbrushes can have a huge impact on students academic success.

Working in a school that has become a second home to English Language Learners comes with many obstacles.

This project will provide essential hygiene products to many students whose families are new to this country and may not be able to afford such resources just yet. Everyday essentials such as deodorant and toothpaste are items that can instill a sense of confidence and self esteem to newcomers when they are surrounded by an entirely new and unfamiliar environment.

Providing these products can help foster resilience and self-care among young individuals facing adversity. My hope is to build confidence in my young students and educate them on how to stay fresh through out the day. Providing students with these essential hygiene products will allow them to develop the necessary skills to independently take care of themselves. Using these products, I will be able to create hygiene kits that will offer a sense of security and confidence for each individual learner and enable them to feel confident when navigating challenging situations.
