This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school is a wonderful wash of ethnicities that cannot merely be shown in the statistics. While the demographics show what my students' parents identify them as, it does not show the wonderful mixing of races and true overview of heritage that go to make up my art classes.

In the same way, standard art supplies are in no way able to show the beautiful range of skin tones that make up the student body of my school.

Since elementary students are not yet trained to see all of the colors that make up skin tones, the nuances that add individuality, they are not able to take a standard set of supplies and match their skin tone. Because of this, they tend to stick to the standard peach and brown. How boring. How untrue. These packs of supplies will allow the students to better match their true skin tones. This will allow for self portraits to show who my students really are rather than defaulting to just what is available.
