Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students represent an array of cultures and ethnicities coming together in a small yet strong urban community. Approximately 80% of our students live in low income housing. All of the students in our school receive free breakfast and lunch. In addition, 30% of our students’ parents are illiterate. Many of our students are English language learners.
Our school frequently looks to foster a sense of family and community with our students and their guardians.
We seek to integrate education with the application of the core beliefs of S.T.E.M learning. Our during and after school activities are important to team building and camaraderie.
Over 30% of our student population participates in after school activities. This allows additional growth and development to assist in cultivating a sense of scholarly learning. Within our S.T.E.M. program is a group of young, devoted educators looking to positively impact the lives of our student population.
My Project
These materials will be essential in creating the opportunity for our students to get moving and find enjoyment in exercise outside. We require some sports items such as basketballs, soccer balls, baseball bats and bases, a kickball, Frisbee discs and footballs to engage in games with students. These sports balls are essential to starting games in which students can implement team building strategies. The mesh bag will allow us to contain all of these items for easy storage and use. In our S.T.E.M. program, we implement outdoor activities as rewards and as a means of decompression after testing periods. The items included in this project would be used to foster teamwork and games with the students within the S.T.E.M. program. Due to lack of funding, our students currently do not have many of the items listed, or they are using materials that are aged or no longer working.
Exercise is essential in enriching students' education.
The use of sports in learning creates opportunities for our students to work together as teams and come together as friends. Each of these items will help promote physical education and encourage mental well-being. The equipment will also provide positive reinforcement.
