Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are scientists, researchers, authors, mathematicians, and future leaders. They show perseverance, take initiative, and they collaborate with their peers.
They are creative and eager to learn.
Although some students come to school prepared, there are others who are not as fortunate. A large percentage of my students are English Language Learners. They are motivated and really want to succeed, but lack the additional help at home to become better readers.
My students put forth all of their effort into succeeding and my goal is to make sure they do!
My Project
My students are working hard to become better readers. During our reading lessons we are engaging with high quality texts and becoming close readers. Close readers have to collaborate, reread important parts, draw and write about the text, and answer questions about the text.
My students sit in the floor to collaborate with their partners and discuss important parts of a text.
The rug that I am requesting will designate an "inviting" area for students to collaborate and work with their texts. It will be their gathering place to learn and share with each other.
I believe having a designated area in the classroom to collaborate and share will enhance their learning experience and engagement with high quality text.
