My students are working hard to become better readers. During our reading lessons we are engaging with high quality texts and becoming close readers. Close readers have to collaborate, reread important parts, draw and write about the text, and answer questions about the text. My students sit in the floor to collaborate with their partners and discuss important parts of a text. The rug that I am requesting will designate an "inviting" area for students to collaborate and work with their texts. It will be their gathering place to learn and share with each other. I believe having a designated area in the classroom to collaborate and share will enhance their learning experience and engagement with high quality text.
