My Students

My classroom has ten wonderful students with special needs with intellectual disabilities and or autism. Their disabilities impact many parts of their lives. For this reason we provide a wide range of support and instruction for them. In addition to academic assistance they also need help advancing their fine motor skills. Their fine motor ability effects every aspect of their lives.

As they increase in their fine motor ability their independence, academic, as well as social opportunities increase, as well.

My Project

We use puzzles in a variety of ways in may classroom. They give my students fine motor development as students need to manipulate the puzzle pieces to get them into the correct alignment in the board. For many of my students this is a difficult task which takes many tries.

It also gives my students different experiences to work on academic skills.

In my classroom my students are working on colors shapes and learning to identify basic vocabulary. Having the bright pictures is exciting for my students to manipulate the animals, people or vehicles. We are able to get them to identify the pictures as they are working on each piece.
