Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students come from many countries and the majority of them do not speak English at home. Every week in our school, we have Reading Zone, which is a time for the entire school to read for pleasure. One of our issues, though, is that there are very few books in our school for our students who speak primarily Spanish just to read for fun. I am requesting Spanish language books for our students.

I would like to be able to put several books in every classroom library that are high interest graphic novels in Spanish.

Teachers and students are constantly asking for more materials; I believe access to exciting books is the secret to making children love reading. Obviously no one needs to justify how important it is for our students to be fluent readers to ensure they are successful later in their lives. Reading for pleasure in their native language will give our Spanish speakers the skills and enthusiasm they need to transfer their reading skills into English as they learn it.
