Help me give my students headphones, Bee-Bots, and Bit Coding Robots for personalized learning opportunities, helping us create an open-lab Coding and Recording Studio where children of any age will be able to share their learning with an authentic audience.
We are a transient Title I school in Virginia with 800 students in pre-k through 5th grade. We make a point of involving our students in developing their own learning pathways. They consistently ask for more of what our dedicated teachers already focus on - integrating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) into their daily instruction. My particular focus is on content integration through design thinking. We have been creating a STEM Lab where kids can learn through dynamic, hands-on-learning lessons. This allows our students to invent, explore, compose, and create as they learn the content. We are always looking for ways to provide opportunities for our students to celebrate our diverse population and for families to be involved in their child's learning.
Through the generosity of donors on this site, the integration of simple materials has begun to enhance our students' school experience, eliminating economic barriers and allowing all children access to the 21st-century skills needed to be successful in their future.
My Project
Our school is filled with children who love hands-on, engaging, and collaborative learning. The teachers in our building work very hard to provide those opportunities for them every day, but we could use your help!
Elementary students are very motivated to learn through the use of technology.
They love to make, create, and design whenever they can. We are building an open STEM Lab for our 700+ students. The goal is for any student to be able to drop by the lab whenever they need to and record their learning in various ways. Some options for sharing their new knowledge will include coding the content with robots like Ozobot or Beebot and creating stop motion or green screen videos.
Currently, we have three Ozobots in the makerspace that students can use to share what they have learned with others. They learn to code and program as an integrated part of their school day. I have never seen any other educational tool engage students, from PreK - 5th Grade, in their learning like working with robots. Learning math, science, history, and language arts has never been so exciting!
The tools in this project will help us build STEM skills that our students need to succeed in the real world! When programming or filming, they naturally work in collaborative groups, communicate their ideas, and solve problems...all while learning the content areas.
I love to see our students plan, discuss, create, film, and share their ideas with each other and with our school community! By adding recording headsets and robots to our STEM Lab, our students will be able to program, code, and record their learning. Our students will have more choice and voice in their day and love every minute of their school experience! Thank you for considering this project!
