I teach Wellness (P.E. and Health) at an arts focused, k-5 public charter school. As an arts school many students are passionate about art, music, drama, etc. I view my class as a way to balance my students' arts passion with learning how to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Participation in my wellness class often is a major part of a student’s daily physical activity. As such, it is critical my classes are highly active. Additional equipment will have impact on the overall health of my students because it will enable students to participate and move more. Best of all, it'll help my students have positive experiences with physical activity contributing to their good health.
My Project
A new school year is beginning and as always there are new challenges. This year my wellness classes will have more students. I will use this equipment in addition to materials I already have to make sure that all of my students have the opportunity to be physically active from the moment wellness class begins.
My students will use this awesome equipment in the soccer, basketball, parachute, dance, pickleminton and fitness units.
My kindergartners through 5th graders will be so excited to roll around on gym mats, shoot soccer balls into mini goals and paddle fleece balls with partners. I can't wait for another school year with the opportunity to support my students in leading healthier and more active lifestyles.
