This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing! As soon as they entered the classroom this year they have been hungry to learn. They have a desire to succeed despite the challenges that they face in and out of the classroom.

I teach in an ICT classroom where our students are on various levels in math. My school is a Title I school in which all students receive free lunch and breakfast. We have both general education and special education students in my classroom. All students should have an equal opportunity and access to achieve and reach their goals. Being able to provide my students with hands on math manipulatives will help my students reach their goals!

My Project

All students learn in different ways. I want all of my students to be able to participate in my math lessons. These concrete math tools will create multiple access points for all of my students to participate in the learning process, no matter what their current skill level is.

My students are mathematicians!

Before a student knows that 5x5=25, they must first understand that 5 groups of 5 has a total of 25. Many of these resources will help build the conceptual understanding that my kids need first in order to develop their fluency. The dry erase grid boards and the large grid paper will allow students to represent multiplication problems as arrays. The Rekenreks will allow students to physically make groups and break down numbers by moving the beads.
