My students come from a low income neighborhood in the South Bronx. Most of my students live in the surrounding projects in the neighborhood. I also have students who are currently live in shelters or are in the foster care system. They are full of personality, energetic, and very enthusiastic. They have different challenges to content with in their home life, but work hard every day to learn. My students are creative, love the arts, and are excited to learn new things.
My Project
Mathematical and Science concepts in the upper grades can be very abstract for students, and makes it challenging to learn more complex ideas. These materials will allow students to have hands on practice to deeply engage with and understand important concepts in math and science. In my 16 years in the classroom. I have come to learn that students learn best when they are able to be engaged in, and excited about the material they are learning. Hands on math and science materials being difficult concepts to life. Students are able to make connections while they interact with the games, activities, and manipulatives.
