My Students

Do you love science or did you enjoy science in school. CYMS strives to have our students working to their full potential. In science, my students are always working hard on the 4 C's of creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking. Our science departments mission is to teach integrated science and make learning science fun! With a new science program, the students have shown great growth in science. Every day, our students come to class excited to see what we will learn in science. The students go home talking to parents about what hands-on science was used in the classroom. The students love conducting and designing science experiments with a hands-on approach. A hands-on approach has created enthusiasm in learning science and in turn the students learn to love science or explore the world around them.

My Project

This project will help our students conduct hands-on science. In conducting hands-on science, students need to be measuring and collecting data with partners. Every week, our science department is conducting hands on science, but we continually share materials and resources. Our budget limits the amount of hands on science we can do in the classroom. Each area of science has its material needs, but we use glassware and scales in multiple lab experiments. The students do a variety of labs such as chemical reactions, extracting DNA, investigating cell processes and thermal experiments.

Hands-on science experiences are a powerful tool for learning science.

Students need the opportunity to explore the world around them, but sometimes this takes science equipment. Science glassware and scales are a necessity in conducting hands-on science. The purchase of science equipment can be a major budget expense. It can be difficult to replace equipment and budget for consumable materials for weekly labs. Working with middle school students, glassware gets stained, chipped, cracked or broken. For the safety of our students, glassware must be replaced. By replacing glassware, funds are taken away from conducting lab experiments. For this reason, we are asking for help to replace our science department glassware and scales.
