My students are 97 fantastic and intelligent kids from the NYC area. They come from various cultural backgrounds and languages, creating a truly unique and diverse classroom.
Many of them are new to this country and struggle with reading and writing, especially with meeting the Common Core Standards.
Additionally, I have several students who do not speak any English at all. These students are quiet and introverted, afraid to even speak. Many students are being raised in single parent households and are currently in a Title One school due to their economic status. These situations unfortunately have prevented them from getting ahead early in life and have not provided them with the life experiences many of us see "typical." However, from the moment they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Since many lack access to technology in the home, I am motivated to provide these tools for them even more.
My 10 and 11 year old students need stimulating and enthralling academic exposures in order to help solidify the content they are learning.
My Project
Ink is a basic an indispensable tool in a classroom. Having ink in our printer will benefit everyone in my classroom. Without it, my students cannot print any of their work for grading or display, since most of my students do not have resources such as a printer, ink or even paper at home.
Having ink in our printer will benefit everyone.
As an English Language Arts teacher, my classroom is a print rich environment and the students love to see their work displayed in the classroom. Imagine a world without color! Printing pictures or poems in black and white just doesn't bring life to their creations. Color ink would breath that life into their words! Also, ink is needed to create tiered organizers for differentiated instruction to support my students' various levels of instruction. Not everybody reaches his or her goal using the same pacing and resources. Providing my students with ink will improve their academic life.
I hope you will help my students to become more creative with their writing and motivate them to want to write more. As my students are able to print their stories and poetry books, they will want to research information and become more literary. By giving to this project, you are enabling my students to continue to have an enriching and vibrant education.
