I am a School Psychologist for Baltimore City Schools.
In the past few years, we have had an increase of students in our programs that have been identified with ASD. I would like to use the identified items to support social skills groups as well as individual sessions with my students who have ASD. The Special Educator would also benefit from these resources. The students in our programs would benefit as they have sensory needs as well as academic needs.
The items that I have requested for this project will make a difference in my students' learning by supporting their social-emotional development and their sensory needs. The following items will be used to support students during social skills groups and during SEL learning time: 5 Book Bundle-Kindness and Social Emotional Learning; 8 Mini Emotion Plush Toys with A Little SPOT of Feelings; Solobo Emotions Coin Drop; Adaptable Ninja and Impulsive Ninja books; Just Now I Feel Angry (SEL) Book; Learning Resources "Who's Feeling What? SEL Games; and 180 Days of SEL for Kindergarten. These tools will allow my students to improve their feeling vocabulary skills, will teach empathy, and will allow students to learn self-regulation and calming strategies. The hand2mind items, 4 Pop FIDGET toy bundle, and anger management toys will be utilized in the classroom Calming Corner for students who may need additional support. The Magnetic Tiles and STEM toys will support my students during Choice Time/Free Play where they can develop their play skills as well as learn cooperation and teamwork skills. Lastly, the Party Favors and sticker charts will be used to supply reinforcers and incentives for positive behavior.
