Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Young children love to pretend to buy things when they are playing store. At five and six they have a difficult time because they do not handle money often. I'd like my students to have tools they can manipulate to learn about financial literacy.

Our school is a Title I school located in a low income community in California.

My students are eager to learn and motivated to do their best. I teach 24 kindergarten and first grade students. My students love mathematics. The new Common Core standards have given my students a different perspective when working with numbers. They are enjoying learning about numbers and they are ready to learn financial literacy skill. I want them to be able to identify, count, and add money. I want them to learn how to save their money.

My Project

My students need subitizing cards and the splash 120 mat floor game, which will be used to work towards Common Core standards. We need toner for our printer in order to print anchor charts, student work, and money games. We need the book Lemonade in the Winter so the students can learn how money is earned, saved, and used. In addition we would like two fact family boards, and math spinners to help my student with numeration skills. They need to have a strong foundation in number recognition in order to learn how to count, add, and subtract money.

By supporting our project you would be helping my students learn about financial literacy.

At this age, they need to learn how to identify, count, and add money. The sooner children learn these basic concepts of numeration the easier it will be when they need to apply these concepts to their daily life.
