My students come from many differing socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. With roughly one-third of my class consisting of students with various needs, we are fortunate to have resource teachers to provide additional services needed.
Despite the various backgrounds and abilities of my students, hardworking, positive-minded, determined, encouraging, and problem solvers is what we all strive to be every day in my 3rd grade classroom (teacher included).
Our classroom fosters a sense of comfort and confidence with taking risks because we know that our mistakes are beneficial to everyone as teachable moments.
My Project
My students need hands-on STEAM activities and creative building materials for an enrichment corner.
I would like to create an "Enrichment" area in my classroom where students can develop critical and creative thinking skills through problem-solving and the arts.
I envision this area to contain a variety of building materials (magnetic tiles, rods, and balls and connecting materials) in an easily organized and accessible storage shelf.
My goal is to encourage my students to build creatively and write about their artistic creations. Learning through the use of math, science, and the arts is a great way to integrate through problem-solving.
I set high expectations for my students and my class knows, "You should always be productive." I feel this enrichment area would provide my students with a fun, challenging, and creative experience when they are finished with their core assignments. With these materials, my students will be able to participate in stem challenge building activities both independently or with a small group.
