I am currently teaching in a multi-age classroom of second and third graders. I have 24 students in my class and each one of them loves to read. Watching the expressions on their little faces as they pick up a book for the very first time is priceless to me. This holiday season, I have chosen to teach a unit on the book Polar Express. I chose this story because it deals with learning to believe and I want them to know that I believe in them! This is a book that can be read over and over and bring joy to everyone's heart. Polar Express is a wonderful tale about believing not only in Christmas, but also in oneself. I plan to use this story and illustrations as a tool for character development, comprehension strategies, word study, and critical thinking skills. I am requesting a copy of the book Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg and manipulatives for each one of my students. By providing these materials, I will be able to offer hands on learning experiences for each student that are invaluable to the learning process. My students and I would like to thank you for the gift of a unique and positive learning experience.
