Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Algebra Venture Tracker (AVT) is a project for students to gain stamps in all the activities they do in our Algebra Class. Every effort is recognized and appreciated and this is done through gaining stamps. The compilation of their works in their folder provides a tracker to monitor their progress in the class.
When students get to see their own progress in a fun and positive way, they exert more effort to achieve the goal and gain more stamps.
One main source of stamps is by jotting down notes. My passion in jotting down notes allows students to get inspired by the colorful notes we have on board or through ELMO. Most students do not write notes and has been isolated by their mobile devices, that is why getting them into writing is already a win for me. Seeing them doing the tasks allows them to learn not just by listening but by recognizing the lesson through writing, particularly in Algebra where every step of the solution is important. Most of them feel the energy of the colorful solutions in which little did they know has a purpose for learning retention. I am happy that some of them started to use color pens also as they take down notes. This project is simple yet impactful to students' character.
We have started this project last semester and I have seen great improvement in the students' performance. Some students were able to gain rewards through their stamps and was eager to earn more. Sadly, their lasts semester's folders worn out already. For that reason, this project was made here to request for materials needed for the continued success of the project.
