My Students

Students at our fine and performing arts charter high school deserve the same education that surrounding suburban schools are offering. We have a great school full of imaginative minds, but we lack many resources. To become lifelong learners and great math students, they need access to calculators.

Our art school attracts creative students from the metropolitan area.

Our students are the most diverse group of kids in the county. We have many LGBT youth here, because they are accepted and can be themselves. Many see our school as a sanctuary as they were bullied and teased for being "different." My students are brilliant kids, who already come to school with an interest in learning. We may be an art school, but this is a high-poverty school. Many students come to school without a lunch, much less a calculator.

My Project

Given the right tools (i.e. calculators) my students will see mathematics in a new light. What may seem dull and boring will come alive with the activities that Texas Instruments offers with the TI-Nspire. My students will understand why math is so important and come to love my class.

Our school serves a special population that deserve more resources than our underfunded charter school can provide.
