My students need Amazon Fire 7" tablets and the Echo Show so they can learn picture vocabulary and reinforce their sight word and phonics skills using 21st century technology.

My students like to learn with hands-on activities. They love to learn and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us have had.
My kids love working on tablets and using technology!!
They work hard each day and at the end of our lessons they use a few old tablets that I have to practice their skills but I don't have enough. Many of my students have no technology at home and are only exposed to it at school. So when they have opportunities to use tablets, they love it. I like to have creative and fun ways to teach my students in order to inspire them to continue on a path of academic excellence.
I am trying to create a 21st century classroom for my Kindergarten students. Technology is an increasingly important part of their future learning and we are making a shift from computers to tablets.
Repetition is the key to retaining what they have learned.
Brain research shows that we need to be exposed to new material at least 25 times before it can remain in long term memory.
Using the tablets and the Echo Show to practice the skills they have learned will help reinforce their learning so they will remember. I want my Kindergarten students to be exposed to new technology and show them that it can be used to make learning fun and effective.
The many skills we work on are picture vocabulary, alphabet sounds, letter names, CVC words and sight words. All of these skills are available for reinforcement in apps that can be used on tablets. The latest Echo Show will be especially nice to work with on picture vocabulary since it can pull up pictures of many of the words Kindergarteners need to know. I would also use the Echo Show for calendar, weather, and quiz games.
These technology tools are a great way to increase student exposure to what they have already learned. If we have early interventions with kindergarteners, we can help them be prepared for 21st century learning.
