Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Sometimes all it takes is a small opportunity to change the course of a young child's life. At our school, we give our students a head start to pursue endeavors after high school by helping them receive their associate's degree at the same time as their high school diploma.
Many of our students are first-generation college students who have sacrificed being in a traditional high school with extracurricular activities such as sports and band in order to get a head start on their college degree.
Our students take college courses simultaneously with their high school courses. We try to offer as many activities as possible in order for our students to find a balance between their rigorous academics and extracurricular activities. To name some of our extracurricular activities, we have Student Council, Art Club, Yearbook, and AV club.
My Project
We have seen the devastating photos and videos of the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Our students, our school and our community were all affected in different ways. As a school, our staff and students have been helping with rebuilding our students' lives, our school and our community. Some have volunteered, some have helped in fundraisers and collected donations. Our Student Council, Yearbook Club and AV Club wanted to partner together to document the rebuilding process.
Our students want to show and document the strength and resilience of our students and community by taking pictures and video of how our community has bounced back from all the devastation brought about by Hurricane Harvey.
Our goal is to use these photos and videos to highlight and promote what community service can do our school and community.
After completing this project, our Yearbook Club and AV Club will use these materials to continue documenting all the good things that our students will be doing for our school and community.
