Help me give my students books that share African American voices who stood up for peace and love!
My students are amazing human beings! They are full of life and have endless potential to do so many wonderful things. My school is a Title I school in a poverty-stricken community. Our school receives a grant that allows every child to have free breakfast and lunch served at school due to food insecurities at home. Many of our parents struggle to help meet the needs of school supplies and the needs of their children. Regardless of these circumstances, my students overcome! They are learning how to face challenges and grow stronger academically, socially and emotionally preparing them for the next level of life.
I believe that these students deserve every opportunity this world has to offer and I am determined to help them get it.
These students can change the world with their brilliant minds and can climb out of the cycle of poverty through the gift of education. They will learn that the world is theirs for the taking with hard work, dedication, and knowledge.
Books are full of historical figures! So often we see Caucasian characters in books as main characters, but how many of us teach kids of diverse races, genders, and interests? I know I do and that's why this might be my most important squeal project.
Make every month black history month!
That's why I created this tenth project as a sequel to my first one. Students must see themselves in books. In our classroom, we build a culture of love and family. These books will be game changers during the month of February, but most importantly, well beyond February! I want my students to read these books anytime and when it's necessary. I can't wait for students to can appreciation for other cultures and form new strong relationships because of it.
