Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I started a club on my campus called "ManUP!". The purpose of our club is to teach young, at-risk students the importance of Self-Improvement, Empowerment, Responsibility, and Social Awareness. Many of these students are actually in my Mild-Moderate Special Education Class for grades 6th-8th.

Many if not all of our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Our entire school is on free and/or reduced lunch for all students. So we are definitely in need of outside resources that will help us achieve our yearly goals that fall under our creed: "We, the young men of ManUP! strive to become positive, successful students who serve as role models to those who look up to us. Through hard work, we strive to improve in the following areas: Self-Improvement, Empowerment, Responsibility, and Social Awareness."

My Project

As the calendar year comes to an end, many of my students are simply happy to just be healthy. As Covid cases begin to increase once again, many of my students are missing school and resorting to online learning again. There are many donors that are matching the gifts given to this project. Our students are stressed, depressed, and simply not willing to engage in learning behind a computer screen as much as they would like to attend in person. However, as of late we have been making gains in motivating students to continue striving regardless of the platform being used thanks to your wonderful donations. With your donation, I plan to use the Amazon gift cards as part of my token economy and reward students with an Amazon gift card to purchase any book written by a Black author of their choice for STEM reading. They would earn the gift card by attending class on a regular basis with a positive attitude. I'm positive that many of my students would appreciate this at a high level so I'm thanking you in advance.
