Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

AES is a wonderfully diverse group of students, who are ever growing and evolving as musical learners. As the music teacher, I have been greatly blessed by their creativity and eagerness to learn. Within our diverse population, about 5% of our students are of the Islander ethnicity.

Our school is a Title I school, with many low income families.

These adversities do not limit our students, and I am honored that they rise above these challenges with courage.

My Project

We will be using these ukuleles to support multicultural integration. Students will be exposed to the islander culture, as well as authentic islander music through these instruments. These instruments will also replace the current string instruments which are in very poor condition.

With the incorporation of these instruments, the teaching of musical concepts, and the use of authentic islander music, children will grow in their understanding of not only the ukulele, but also the rich heritage of the islander culture.

Diversity, and respect for all cultures, will be a priority not only for class settings, but for concerts as well.
